St. Marys Principal

Junior and Senior Infants and 1st Class had a wonderful time at Ravenwood on Thursday. They searched for mini-beasts and aqua-beasts using nets and pooters. They caught lots of interesting creatures and identified them using the identification charts. Grasshoppers, butterflies, water scorpions, damselfly nymphs and baby stickleback fish were just some of the creatures examined and released back into their habitat. The children finished off with a ‘paddle’ at Curracloe Beach. A really fun day!

Water Safety 5th and 6th Class

Today Carmel Crean from Wexford Water Safety came in to talk to the older pupils. 5th and 6th class learned about water safety on farms, at home, in swimming pools and at the beach. At the end of the session, each pupil received a Land PAWS 1 Certificate. We hope they learned lots, and that they will remember what they learned when around water over the summer months.

Mrs. Duke’s class went on an ecology trip to Raven Point Nature Reserve. They searched for mini-beasts and aqua-beasts using nets and pooters. They found lots of interesting creatures.

Congratulations to Ava Miller (2nd Class), Penny Jacob (2nd Class) and Rachael Jacob (6th Class) who have been awarded prizes for the poems they wrote for ‘The Creative Spirit’ competition . This competition was in conjunction with the Ferns Diocesan Pastoral Council and the Christian Media Trust. The girls’ poems will have been recorded and will air on a programme with Christian Media Trust in due course. Well done girls!!
